Mount Suribachi photographer Joe Rosenthal dies

Famed photographer Joe Rosenthal, who photographed five U.S. Marines and one Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Iwo Jima, died Sunday in Novato, Calif. He was 94.

Mr. Rosenthal's photograph, The New York Times' Richard Goldstein wrote in Rosenthal's obituary, was perhaps the most widely distributed photograph in United States history.
