Stephanie Sinclair of Corbis and Olivier Jobard of Sipa won the top two prizes in Perpignan at the 16th annual Visa pour l'Image international festival of photojournalism. Sinclair won the Visa d'Or in the feature category for her story on female self-immolation in Afghanistan and Jobard won the news Visa d'Or for his coverage of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Now I'm familiar with Stephanie Sinclair's work because she graduated from the University of Florida a few years before I did, and then went onto start the PhotoBetty website/listserv. But in searching for more work from Olivier Jobard, I stumbled across this photo gallery of all the images that were recognized at Vias pour l'Image, that is inspirational in both the depth of coverage and aesthetics qualities.
